Reflecting God’s Glory (not my own)

I was reading a daily email I get from “TGIF – Today God Is First” and it really struck me. So I must share it with you – it is very thought provoking.
“They will tell of the glory of Your kingdom and speak of Your might, so that all men may know of Your mighty acts and the glorious splendor of Your kingdom.” Psalm 145:11-12
The question Os Hillman poised in his article was:
How do you measure your effectiveness in God, or should you even be thinking like this?
Here’s his commentary on the matter: “The early Church turned the world upside down in that first century. What made them so effective? Was it their theology? Was it great preaching? Was it due to one man’s influence apart from Jesus? The Scriptures are clear as to what made the early Church effective. It is at the core of God’s heart, and it is quite simple. God desires to reflect His nature and power through every individual. When this happens, the world is automatically changed because those who reflect His glory affect the world.”
For a great review of the early church, I always go back to Acts 2. To see how God moved through a small group of people focused on loving & serving Him – they were filled with the Spirit and simply changed the world.
“We serve a jealous God. He is a God who will not share His glory with anyone. God sets up situations in order to demonstrate His power through them. He has done this since the day He created man. His desire is to reflect His glory through you and me, so that all men may know of His mighty acts and the glorious splendor of His Kingdom. The apostle Paul understood this principle: “My message and my preaching were not with wise and persuasive words, but with a demonstration of the Spirit’s power, so that your faith might not rest on men’s wisdom, but on God’s power” (1 Cor. 2:4-5). If you do not see His glory being reflected through your life, then you need to ask why. He has promised to do so if we will walk in obedience to His commands”
It’s easy to miss the simplicity of “living a life that is worthy of the calling” and furthermore, not realizing that we reflect God’s Glory. I often ask – am I reflecting God’s Glory. If I wronged someone (like cutting someone off while driving as an example), how did I steal the glory away from the Lord. Perhaps there was a chance to let them in my lane… even if it would put me back 30 seconds off my commute.
If I turn a situation around by a simple “how or what would Jesus do” (the standard WWJD response) here and now – things could be entirely different. Thinking that through even further, instead of asking WWJD, perhaps I should start my day by making sure I have prepared myself mentally and spiritually with the mind of Christ – to reflect His glory (and not my own). A simple change in my own perspective is a great change indeed. It’s never too late either.
For His Glory,
Dave
BTW – if you don’t get a daily inspirational email, I suggest this one by Marketplace Leaders. A good friend got me started with them a few years back and they’ve really blessed me.

God is Able (Acoustic Version by Hillsong)

God is Able (Acoustic) performed by Matt Crocker

I put this version together to help worship leaders and musicians (all you guitar players out there) to be able to watch and play along. I call this "Play Along" and I've gotten a lot of great feedback from you who are able to plush play, pick up your instrument and worship along with the song. It's a format I hope I can continue to use to help those in the church grow in their abilities.

God is Able is a great, acoustic version of the song performed and sung by Matt Crocker of Hillsong. Words and Music by Reuben Morgan & Ben Fielding and chords / tabs so you can play along by David W Geipel. Be blessed with Hillsong's God is Able.

LIMITED TIME. LIMITED ATTENTION.

Law of Scarcity
I use to work for one of the most successful direct marketing companies on the planet. They had all the right ways of getting you to pull out your credit card to buy-now. Actually, they found a way to create a virtual card on file so you didn’t have to pull it out the second, third, fourth, fifth times and so forth. That’s powerful when you stop to think about the friction that removes you from making a purchase.

On of their most powerful tools however was based on The Law of Scarcity. This is law that is really controlled by their customers, not the company. They manipulate the results only by reminding you of it.

So what is the The Law of Scarcity?
According to Wikipedia, it is: “Scarcity is the fundamental economic problem of having seemingly unlimited human wants in a world of limited resources.”

What does this look like in the context of direct marketing? Here’s some powerful terms they use both verbal, audible and visual.

  • Limited-Time-Only: through ##/##/## or until…
  • Countdown (time or units): 100,99,98…
  • The next… (For the next, to the next… etc)
  • Only XYZ available…
  • Until…
People always want more of the limited item or resource - because they can’t have it. We are finite beings who desire something infinite.

Unfortunately, this also relates to our relationship with God. We cannot produce more of two things very easily: time and money. It says in Exodus and Deuteronomy among other places that God is a Jealous God.

‘…for you shall worship no other god, for the Lord, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God)…” Exodus 34:14

He is jealous how we worship Him. We worship Him with both time and money. We worship Him in our time by what we do... AND... by how we think. Our thoughts and intents of the heart are judged by Him through His Word (Hebrews 4:12). Yes, what we think, when we think it along with our intentions are all judged. Just open His Word and He will draw us closer to Him through soaking in His Word.

Perhaps you've never considered how you spend your scarce time & money. But God cares.

David Geipel

David Geipel
David Geipel
My name is Dave Geipel and this is my blogger (now blogspot) site. I have a lot to say but little time to say it. I love short, sweet, to the point messages. Married to my college sweetheart Michelle and we have four active children. My interests include Business, Entrepreneurship, Marketing, Writing (articles, books and music), Leading Worship and Drinking lots of Coffee - so let's get together sometime over one to talk.

This world is a little crazy. Things move at a rapid pace, but sometimes we need to hit || PAUSE || or just slooooow down. Focus on the big picture and complete the details. It will all come together. Just realize your life is bigger than you. It's not about you... it's not about me, David Geipel - I get that already. But I need to be reminded. So take any insight, wisdom or instruction as merely words for myself to take to heart.

No matter what we decide in life, we place our faith in something. It could be power, money, our family, spouse, kids, friends, ministry, work, etc. Despite the attention these require, there is One who desires your heart - Jesus. He's the one who gave Himself as ransom for many. His blood on the cross paid it all. You need to accept that payment paid on your behalf and as a result, turn to Him in all things. So perhaps some of my encouragement will help you too. It's my hope and prayer and keep looking up!

Blessings

David Geipel
